It only took one class and she was hooked. Katie's background in gymnastics and dance created an immediate connection to the physical asana practice, but it was the impact yoga had on calming and focusing the scattered and imperfect mind that made her fall in love.
Katie completed her 200 hr training in Ashtanga at Source of Yoga in LA under Caroline Kliebl then went on to complete a 300 hr training in Hatha Yoga through Zuna Yoga in Bali under Everett Newell. Her training and practice lends her to create flowing sequences that focus on a foundation of correct alignment and the linking of the breath to each movement and pose.
"Through yoga we gain strength and vitality, eliminate weakness and train the body and mind to overcome obstacles. Every time we step on the mat is an opportunity to gaze deep inside our minds, a place only we have access to, and by becoming more conscious and aware we can treat ourselves and others with more respect, a loving energy and an interconnected nature."
When she's not at the yoga studio you can usually find Katie up in the mountains hiking and rock climbing, or basking in the sunlight at the beach.

Tone and Tighten your Abs in some expected and unexpected ways.
The practice begins with kindling a fire in the belly with variations of Supta Baddha Konasana and reclined twists. A few extended planks in Surya Namaskara A will increase the heat in the whole body.
We will play with finding our core engagement in both external and internal standing poses and balance the strength with length in twists and backbends.
With a practice like this, your body will feel dynamite!
A solid plank pose will build the foundation for more challenging balances. It tones the core, strengthens the low back, chest, shoulders, arms and more. It's basically a one-stop pose to get your whole body fired up.
We'll warm up the shoulders and wrists before moving into a modified version of Sun Salute A. Then we'll go on a journey through variations of the traditional plank, visiting side-plank, forearm-plank, and even plank-jacks. Building the core muscles wouldn't be complete without finding length in a few juicy twists and creating space with lovely heart openers.
Build your heat and find your balance in this short fiery flow.
The sequences will build up the heat right from the start.
Practice working your breath and finding a steady gaze so you can move with grace and ease. Yoga isn't just about sitting into a pose but also about how you arrived there. Let's practice being smooth between the moves.
Dive deep into the hips in this fiery flow. Let go of the emotional stress that's held in the body's largest joint by stretching into deep malasanas and sinking into juicy lizard poses, all while building heat and strength. Connect to your body and move intuitively. There will be an opportunity to float on your hands in Bhujapidasana, open up your heart in camel, fire up your core in navasana, and of course melt the outside world away in forward folds. Two blocks recommended but not required.
Yoga sculpt your full body. This class will both strengthen and lengthen for a total body burn. Variations of plank, chair, crescent and bridge pose will create the heat that tones while twists and folds provide feel-good length. Expect deep twists that will prepare you for a side crow balance all while moving and breathing into a stronger and more stable you.
The shoulders are an integral part of many yoga poses. Learning how to switch them on and properly use them can create a positive change to your practice. Whether you're looking for a more activated plank or are learning to fly in Eka Pada Galavasana, this class is sure to open up a new element to your flow.
Expect a sweaty and heart rate-building class that will get your forearms, shoulders and hips fired up. You'll have the opportunity to flow through sweet Sun Salutations and build strength through dynamic movements.
Your back and core support you in your every move, so why not support and strengthen them with this short and fiery flow? We'll move through core and back strengthening exercises while elongating and stretching the back and major muscle groups. Make sure to listen to your body and move from a place of self love!
