Hi! We're Ally Hamilton and Dorian Cheah, co-founders of Yogis Anonymous. We opened our studio doors on September 1, 2009 with the intention of bringing the healing power of yoga to everybody who seeks it, regardless of the external details of their lives.
Hi, I’m Ally Hamilton. When I was twenty, I wandered into a yoga class thinking it was going to be too easy for me, and that yoga was “stretching on the floor.” After having my ass handed to me, I was hooked. Not only was the physical challenge appealing, but I soon discovered yoga was a way of being, not something you do for 90 minutes on a mat. Today, years later, I can trace every good thing in my life back to my yoga practice. When I’m not having fun with my kids, standing on my head, or teaching, you can find me writing my next book.
Hey! I'm Dorian. I was dragged to my first yoga class when I was 27. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. Halfway through my second class, I too was hooked! Yoga has been a big part of my life ever since. Although I don't teach yoga myself, helping Ally build Yogis Anonymous and watching smiling faces come through our front door every day has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my life. When I'm not in down dog or playing with my kids, I like making stuff. Like music. And this website :)
Right next door to us is a large modern public parking structure. Yay! It's free for the first 90 minutes and $1 for the next hour, which means that typically you'll either pay nothing or $1 to park while you take a class here.
Downtown Santa Monica is serviced by both the Metro and Big Blue Bus lines. Also now open is the brand new Expo line train station just 3 blocks from us. There are now more ways than ever to be an eco-friendly traveler!
All you REALLY need to bring is yourself and a desire to take care of it. But some other things that will help: A yoga mat (or rent one here for $2), a towel, water (fill your container here). Wear comfortable clothes that are not too loose so your top won't hang over your face when you're in down dog!
